6 tips for cooling off on hot summer days

In this post, I will reveal 6 tips for cooling off on hot days.

Whether at home or traveling, everyone can use good tips for cooling off on hot days.

Hi everyone, what are your plans for the summer holidays this year? Are you going to travel or will you be exploring your own country?

Please tell us about your plans, wishes, and thoughts in the comment box.

Do you like summer heat?

I personally LOVE the heat. It makes me feel so much better than the coldness in the winter months.

But many people are suffering from the summer heat. They are moaning, resting sleepless

during hot summer nights. Air conditioning is cooling their rooms and cars down. But being a health coach

I know cold ventilation is not as healthy and not a half as good heat coolant as you think.

6 tips to cool down without air condition

1. body hydration by drinking water

This is the most important tip to cool down:

Drink enough water (at least 1.5 to 2 liters per day, while sweating 1 or 2 liters more)

There are many people having problems with this point. They sip on their water a few times per day, but they

DON’T drink enough.

Why is drinking water so important?

The human body is about 70 percent water. This is a huge amount. All processes in the body cells require water to function. So if we don’t drink enough water in the summer, we dehydrate and nothing in the body works as well as it should. The result can be a headache, dizziness, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, feelings of anxiety.

Also, water is used for cooling the body, similar to the radiator water in a car, which cools the engine down. Sweating only works if there is enough water to produce sweat. It then lies on the skin like a film. When the sweat evaporates on the skin, it takes the warmth away and cools the body down.

So it’s very important to fill up the cooling system of the body with water. But don’t drink the whole amount at once, spread it over the day, preferably a glass in the morning after getting up, one 1 hour before and after meals and the rest when it’s okay for you. But it is also useless to drink too much water.

Drink the right amount of water at the right time.

2. hydration by cooling the skin from the outside

Get a mineral water spray in a drugstore or make a homemade cooling spray: boil a mint or green tea, let it cool, pour it into a travel spray bottle and keep it in the fridge. (This can be done while you travel, with or without storing it in a refrigerator or at home). Spray it on the skin without drying and enjoy the cooling. There are also special sprays with cooling extracts available from the drugstore.

3. people don’t like, sweating, but it’s healthy

As we saw above (tip 1: drinking enough water), sweating cools the body through evaporative cooling. But many people don’t like to sweat. During work sweat stains on clothing and body odors are not desirable, but there are ways to prevent them. And sweat doesn’t have to smell bad.

A tip: if your sweat smells strongly of ammonia, it can mean that you have not eaten enough carbohydrates. That is why many athletes eat meals rich in carbohydrates, often pasta, before and after the competition.

Why is sweating healthy?

If you never go to the sauna, sweating in summer is a real wellness treatment for you. This also means that metabolic end products such as urea and ammonia are excreted through the skin pores. So it’s a detox cure. Sweat also keeps the skin’s protective acid mantle intact, prevents bacterial and fungal growth, and thus contributes to healthy skin.

3. treat the heat with hot mint tea or lukewarm water

I know, it’s tempting to cool down the heat with ice-cold water, to take a very cold shower or to drink something, that comes straight from the fridge (I do this for first-aid too). But this is not a good idea. When the body comes into contact with something cold, it tries to compensate for the temperature difference by producing even more heat. And that is not what we want.

This is why residents in hot countries drink hot mint tea to cool off because peppermint cools the body from the inside. Maybe we should try that too?

4. eat light meals, fresh vegetables, salads, and cooling fruits

It’s great to eat cucumber and tomato salads in the heat. The vegetables include a lot of water, as do watermelons and berries. They also contain many antioxidants that support the body’s functions and the beauty of the skin, making them an ideal anti-aging food. Tomatoes, pineapples, watermelons, and lettuce have a cooling effect from the inside.

Reduce meat, fish, chili, cinnamon, black pepper, and goat’s or sheep’s milk foods, because these foods heat the body. And that’s not what you want either.

Especially in the evening, you should prefer light meals, so that you don’t have to spend a sleepless night. Shorten the tv and screen time before going to bed and let the fresh, cool air from outside cool off your apartment or camper.

5. eat more acidified products like yogurt, kefir, and quark

Acid fermented products are also available in all variations milk-free for vegans. They are very tasty and extremely healthy because they keep the intestines in good shape, they also prevent summer diarrhea at home as when traveling.  The acidified products fight internal heat, which is probably the reason why so much yogurt, lassie, etc. is consumed in warmer countries. Also, they are very delicious in desserts, and also in sauces.

6. more tips for cooling down

Let cold water run over your wrists in the shower room. Do not dry your hair with a hairdryer after washing, but use a salt or styling spray and let it air dry. This results in a vacation-like beach hairstyle at home 🙂

I hope that you can get through the summer well chilled at home and on the go and you can also enjoy the warmth, it doesn’t last that long. If you have other tips that have helped you cope with the summer heat, we would very much like to know everything about it.
